Standing at attention with a broad chest, square muzzle, and expressive painted eyes, this piece brings the personality of the breed to life in cast iron. It's the kind of object that stops people in their tracks before it ever stops a door.

Attribution & Dating

Circa 1925–1935, most likely by Hubley Manufacturing Co. — one of the most celebrated names in American cast iron collectibles. The proportions are highly consistent with Hubley's larger dog doorstop line: the broad chest, compact square muzzle, natural standing pose, tightly curled tail, and refined painted details all align closely with known Hubley examples. Attribution to a similar foundry cannot be entirely ruled out without examination of the underside, but the quality and character are unmistakably period.

Details

Breed: Boston Terrier (listed as "Boston Bull Terrier" in period catalogs)

Construction: Two-piece cast iron with hand-painted finish

Height: 9½ inches (catalog size)

Pose: Natural standing

Finish: Expressive painted eyes and refined surface detail — more polished than what is typically found on reproductions

Dimensions: 9.5" L × 5" W × 10" H | Weight: 7 lbs 15.7 oz

A strong example for the serious doorstop collector, the cast iron enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates American folk art and decorative antiques with genuine character.

Please note: As an antique approximately 90–100 years old, this piece will show natural signs of age, wear, and patina consistent with its history.
